Dietetic Internship (Certificate in Dietetics)

The Dietetic Internship Program at SFSU is part of the graduate Certificate in Dietetics. The dietetic internship provides the knowledge and practice requirements necessary to be eligible to take the Registered Dietitian (R.D.) examination. Interns will be placed in rotations in hospitals, long-term care/skilled nursing facilities, health clinics, community nutrition programs, and other health/community organizations in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area for supervised practice experiences. In addition to the internship portion of the program, interns take graduate level academic courses in nutrition on management, nutrition in the lifespan, research, and medical nutrition therapy. The Dietetic Internship Program at SFSU is a full-time, 11 month program, from mid-July through early June.

Only students who have completed or are near completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) are eligible to apply for this internship. A DPD is typically an undergraduate degree in dietetics, although there are other tracks.

Please note that interns will need to be cleared by background check, fingerprinting, and drug screening prior to starting rotations. Interns will also need to obtain medical clearance to include, but not limited to, TB clearance (two-step PPD tests and/or chest x-ray), immunizations and titers showing immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, rubeola, Hepatitis B, a TDap booster, a flu shot, and a satisfactory physical exam prior to starting rotations. All interns will need access to a vehicle for getting to rotations for the duration of the internship. Please do not apply to our program if you unwilling or unable to complete/meet these requirements.
